Viewing a contract

Understand the information and sections available when you open a contract in James.

2 min readUpdated Oct 19, 2026

When you open a contract, James brings its key details, lifecycle, files, reminders, and recorded activity together in one place.

Contract overview

The Overview section shows the contract information that has been saved, including contract details, counterparties, duration, and payment-plan information. James leaves out overview fields and sections that have no value.

If the contract has both a start date and an end date, Contract Lifecycle shows its progress through the contract period. It also shows the contract start and end dates, termination deadline when available, status, relationship, and responsible person when these details are available.

A contract is labelled Active or Inactive. James shows this status at the top of the contract and in Contract Lifecycle.
